Few people realize that cartoons got their start as war propaganda films that were designed to belittle or make fun of the enemy. This worked to shape public opinion by developing both an aversion to the enemy and a sympathetic view of the actions taken against them.
Have cartoons actually matured past their initial aim as a wartime propaganda tool or are they still being used to wage war on a different enemy? Is it coincidental that children, who are hyper impressionable and lack the cognitive tools to process the subtle messages imbedded in cartoons, actually make up the largest demographic of cartoon viewership?
The Bible warns us to guard our hearts, but does entertainment, especially cartoons, allow back door access to the shaping of our hearts? If so, then who is actually pulling the strings of this influential media? Should we stop thinking of cartoons as an innocent pastime and start viewing them as wartime mind-bending, heart-altering platform that can potentially challenge our allegiance to Christ? Listen to what our friends at LED have to say about it and you decide.
