It’s been said that the first victim, the first casualty of any war is truth. In fact, Winston Churchill once quipped that “In wartime, truth is so precious that she should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies.” We disagree. We have found, whether in times of war or peace, that all lies serve the same purpose: to manipulate the will by impeding truth in order to arrest the mind. No wonder the ability to think for one’s self has been one of the most cherished and besieged liberties in the history of man, and yet it is one of the most essential aspects of Christianity under increasing fire in western thought
We find it astonishing that so much of Christ’s message focuses on changing the way one thinks. It seems that DiCaprio got it right in his movie Inception when he said that “there is nothing more resilient than an idea fully formed in the mind.” This is the very reason why Scripture teaches that ideas are the forefront of spiritual warfare; and that’s right where we come in. Our job is to persuade the mind, stir the emotions, and provoke the will by asking questions which dislodge ideas that are hostile to the Christian faith and thus prevent people from examining the counter perspective of Christ more easily. In order for one to consider the Christian perspective, one must first be free: free to evaluate, free to think, and most importantly, free to choose.
See, for us, its not about being “critical” or “deep” as much as its about accuracy and truthfulness. Why those two? Because, we think accuracy, which aids in clarifying or refocusing an issue, helps prevent deception from concealing the truth, and truth when its discovered, can free the mind. Its this freedom that we crave above all else. Why? Because we believe human beings to be creatures indued with freedom of will by our Creator, Yahweh. However, that raises an interesting question, “the will to do what?” The will to think freely; to reason logically, deduce accurately, and conclude truthfully, without force or reservation of conviction, so that we might act responsibly. Its this freedom that we seek to help others find; but to do so places us squarely in the middle of a war — a truth war.
